There are several types of 3D Printers. Some use liquid, some powder, some plastic and other types of materials. The 3D Printers that most consumers and small companies use, or those with a budget in mind, are printers that use an Additive Layering Technology that builds the 3D item layer by layer.

These printers primarily use a filament that feeds into the printer, is melted, and then applied to the surface of the item being printed. The filament comes in different types of materials including PLA, ABS, Nylon, Rubber, and others.

Filaments usually come in one of two standard sizes: 1.75mm or 3.0mm. In the case of 3.0 mm, that is the maximum size that can be used. For most machines that use 1.75mm filament, that is a nominal size, or about average. These printers can use filament that is near that size. So, youll sometimes see filament listed as 1.75mm, and sometimes at 1.8mm. It is the same size filament. For most consumer machines, youll be using the 1.75mm size filament materials.

The filament is loaded into the printer through the head where it is gripped and fed into the extrusion head. The head has to be heated up to the melting temperature of the material of which the filament is made. For each type of material you use, you will want to learn the melting temperatures as well as the recommended temperature for the building plate. If the temperature is too hot, you may have problems with the material running and not holding the shape of the item. If the plate is too hot, the lower part of the item may spread or widen from the heat. If the material is applied too cool, it may not extrude at the right speed and you may not get good fills. If the plate is not hot enough for some materials, they may slip and move around, ruining any attempts at printing.

Each type of filament has its own properties and the only real way to find out how best to work with it is to do some experimenting. Start with recommended temperatures and settings and then try changing one setting at a time until you get it right. The thermostats and thermometers in each printer can vary slightly so, your setting and my setting may not always be the same, even on the same model printer. Experience really is the best teacher on this one.

ProMatte™ is a new filament offered exclusively by Type A Machines in collaboration with Polymaker. It is the beginning of a wave of high-performance, high-quality, versatile materials which can be used on the Series 1 and Print Pod. ProMatte produces a beautiful matte finish right off the print bed. The  matte texture is unlike the majority of other filaments, which naturally obscures the visual impact of the layers that occur naturally in FDM 3D prints. Yet even the smallest details stand out at a level previously unseen in filament materials.

ProMatte weighs roughly 30% less than standard PLA, while retaining a great deal of the strength of PLA. Prints are more flexible and malleable than PLA, and thus will bend more before breaking. ProMatte can therefore be used in applications where weight savings are a critical design requirement.

The Worlds Most Post-Processable Filament

ProMatte can be sanded, tumbled, torched, and even carved! When sanding ProMatte, using progressively lower grit sandpaper produces an amazing shine. Depending on the geometry of your object, tumbling can also produce a smooth, beautiful texture that will make you wonder if it ever came off an FFF machine. Using a handheld blowtorch can remove strings and other artifacts, and if you want to add some detailed artistic touches, you can use a sharp craft knife to etch into the material.

Measured by Length, Saving you Material.

ProMatte is the first material in our store to be measured primarily by length and not weight. This new way of measurement accommodates the way slicing engines measure filament requirements. The transparent spool, allows you to see how much filament you have left, which you can compare to the requirements of the print.

Surface Treatment Requirement:Glue with heated glass seems to work on most geometries tested. For larger parts, a heated bed is recommended.

Retraction:We advise against using excessive retraction distance, as it doesnt reduce retraction artifacts on ProMatte prints. That said, its incredibly easy to remove strings on ProMatte prints.

Glass Transition Temperature: 60 ˚C (140 ˚F)

Melting Point: 150-160 ˚C (302-320 ˚F)

Print Temperature Range: 180-240 ˚C

Heated Bed: 60 ˚C recommended, but not required.

Build Surface Treatment: Glue on Glass

The ZYYX proPLA is our PLA blend that ensures stable overhang performance and excellent surface quality, due to controlled viscosity in the cooling phase. PLA is a eco friendly biodegradable thermoplastic derived from renewable resources. PLA is used as the first choice for prototyping and producing parts that will not be exposed to thermal or high mechanical stress. The surface of the ZYYX proPLA will be semi-glossy.

The ZYYX proABS is our ABS blend that performs well with our build plate due to the polymer mix. Our proABS is excellent for printing prototypes or production parts that are exposed to medium mechanical stress. Please note that larger ABS objects may subject to warping.

The ZYYX proFlex is our pro grade Flexible filament suitable for printing everything from shoe soles prototypes to RC Car tires. It has an hardness of approximately 60D, and by setting the infill percentage and number of shells in our Simplify3D proProfiles, the hardness of the printed model can be varied to better suit your application.

When printing with proFlex we strongly recommend use of our ZYYX pro SoftSpring to ensure stable extrusion.

This filter package will give you a fume-free printing experience for roughly half a year, as the Fume FIlter should be replaced every other month.

The ZYYX Build Plate uses a premium borosilicate glass base plate laminated with a custom plastic surface.

This build plate surface enables printing with most of the currently available filament types without any need for a heated plate or adding temporary materials to the plate surface.

The build plate is held in place with three neodymium magnets, making it easy to remove the plate before removing the prints.

A ZYYX Build Plate is supplied with the printer, and this will last about 6 months under normal usage. After this time the plate surface will have some wear and to ensure good adhesion the plate should be replaced.
